The show starts at 5pm on Saturday, June 26th!

The Happening Dance Recital SEASON 8

Please find below your filming time(s).

Filming of each class takes place between June 8th - 13th at The Scotiabank Dance Centre on 677 Davie Street. Dancers arrive in costume with full hair and make-up at the front door entrance (on Davie) 10 minutes prior to their filming time. They arrive in street shoes, and carry their dance bag with them with extra tights, bobby pins, dance shoes, and water bottle. They will head down the stairs to the right of the front entrance, get their dance shoes on, do final touches, warm up etc., in this lobby space. Their instructor will come and ask the Covid-19 screening questions, and then lead them into the theatre when the previous group has finished and vacated the space. In all spaces everyone is masked at all times. Their number is filmed. Parents do not come in with the dancers. This is a drop-off/pick-up situation.

Each class is filmed, and a video is edited to create a seamless production that includes all classes. We share that video compilation as a live streamed ticketed event on Saturday, June 26th at 5pm. You purchase a ticket to watch the show on Eventbrite (link to come) on May 10th, for $25/household. It’s a 3-hour show, and it’s available for several days after June 26th if you can’t watch it on the exact day. Help spread the word! We cannot wait for you to see the talent, passion, drive, and determination that our dancers have.

Make-up, Masks & Hair

MAKE-UP

This season, we have two different make-up options to share with you. Your family will choose between the two, and you do not have to tell us which you choose. Boys have the same expectations and choice as girls, as do our non-binary dancers. The options are, “dramatic” and “natural.” They are explained below:

Look 1: Dramatic

Here is a Youtube Video showing the dramatic look.

Here is a PDF with instructions for the dramatic look and hair for everyone.

MASKS

All masks must be plain black, with no logo, no other colour or embellishment. You will supply the mask. This is not a studio supplied item.

HAIR

Hair will be middle part, slicked low ponytail, as shown below in the image. Your ponytail elastic should be the same colour of your dancer’s hair, or black. Not pink, green, white, not a scrunchie. If your dancer does not have enough hair for this style, ensure it it slicked out of their face with product, consider using bobby pins (same colour as their hair).

Here is a link to a PDF with instructions for everyone’s hair.

Jewelry, Watches + Nail Polish

Remove all jewelry, nail polish, and watches for filming. If your dancer JUST got their ears pierced, and can not take out their studs/hoops, we understand.

REMEMBER TO BRING:

Below is a list of all the classes, and a note if they need to purchase and bring black socks or tights as part of their costume for filming, as well as special notes about hair and extra accessories. It is important that all dancers adhere to this list.

Black Socks

Black socks should not have logos, lines or grip embellishments on the bottoms. They need to be PLAIN black socks. Socks should be ankle height for hip hop/breaking. They should not extend far beyond the shoe. Socks must be longer and hidden under pant leg for contemporary.

Tights

Your dancer’s class might need to bring tights (ballet/contemporary). Ensure you have the correct colour/style of tight. Check that the tights don’t have rips in them before you leave for your filming. “No tights” means your dancer will have bare legs, or pants, etc. (which are part of the costume you purchased). “No tights” does not mean socks.

Style numbers (from the Dance Shop):

  • Tap/Jazz Mondor 345/310

  • Ballet Mondor 345/310

Black Sneakers

Take note if your dancer needs to bring black sneakers (Hip Hop). They do NOT have to be all black. It is fine of they have white soles. It is fine if they have white laces. pink laces? Not so much. It is not fine if the body of the shoe is any colour other than black.
